One Game at a Time is a free, fan-made football games site. This page explains, in plain language, what we store about you and what you can do about it. We only collect what the games need to work.

Playing as a guest

You don't need an account to play. As a guest:

  • Your game progress, results and streaks are saved in your browser's local storage on your device.
  • A random device ID is created so you can resume games, play Head-to-Head, keep a Masters Football squad and make Predictions. We store a scrambled (hashed) version of it on our servers alongside that game data.
  • Clearing your browser data removes the local copy; we can't link it back to you.

If you create an account

We store:

  • Account details: your email address, a securely hashed password or passkey, and an optional display name.
  • Game data: daily results and scores, streaks, Masters Football squads, team names and match results, Predictions tables and season picks.
  • Social features: friend groups, prediction leagues and Head-to-Head matches you create or join, including the display name other members see. Whether you appear on the global leaderboard is your choice.
  • Reminder preferences: whether reminders are on, your chosen time and timezone, and the last date you played (so we don't remind you after you've played).

Guest results on the device you sign up with are copied into your new account so you don't lose them.

How we use it

  • To run the games, save your progress across devices and show scores, streaks, leaderboards and leagues.
  • To send the reminder emails you've opted into, and essential account emails (such as sign-in or password reset).
  • To keep the site working and stop abuse or cheating.

We don't sell your data, show ads based on it, or share it with marketers.

Reminder emails

Streak and Masters Football reminders are off unless you turn them on, and you'll get at most one a day. You can switch them off any time in your account settings, and every reminder email has an unsubscribe link. We also stop reminding you after a week of not playing.

Where it's stored

Data is held with our hosting and database providers, who process it on our behalf. Some of those providers may store data outside the UK or EU with appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep it

Account and game data is kept while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal details and game history. Guest data tied to a device ID that hasn't been used for a long time may be removed.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data by emailing hello@onegameatatime.example. If you're in the UK or EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Accounts are for people aged 13 or over. If you think a younger child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser storage only for things the site needs: keeping you signed in, saving game progress and remembering your settings. We don't use advertising trackers.

If we change this policy we'll update the date above. See also our Terms of Service.
